What is bioidentical testosterone therapy?

Many women are surprised to learn that testosterone plays an important role in female health. It supports energy, mood, strength, mental clarity, and sexual desire throughout adulthood.

Levels naturally decline with age, stress, and hormonal changes, and standard lab ranges do not always reflect how a woman actually feels.

Bioidentical testosterone therapy restores what your body once produced using a hormone identical to your own, prescribed in low physiologic doses and guided by a licensed provider based on your symptoms, labs, and follow-ups.

Bioidentical testosterone therapy - treatment options

Testosterone cream (transdermal testosterone)
Applied daily to the skin for consistent absorption and optimal testosterone levels. Often selected for ease of use and precise dose control. Prescribed in low, physiologic doses tailored to women and adjusted based on symptoms and lab results.

Low-dose testosterone injections (subcutaneous)
Delivered in very small, frequent microdoses with a micro-fine needle just under the skin. Designed to maintain stable testosterone levels and avoid the hormonal peaks and troughs associated with higher or less frequent dosing.

Oral testosterone capsules (custom compounded)
Taken daily in a low dose capsule form when clinically appropriate. May be recommended based on individual response, tolerance, and treatment goals. Dosing is carefully personalized to support symptom improvement while maintaining safe hormone levels.

“Many women come to us feeling flat, exhausted, and disconnected from themselves. They’re doing all the right things, yet still don’t feel like them anymore. All too often, no one has ever talked to them about testosterone.

I’ve seen testosterone change women’s lives. Energy comes back. Motivation returns. Libido wakes up. They start engaging with life again.”

Frequently asked questions

Testosterone levels vary by age, life stage, and individual biology. Laboratory reference ranges for total testosterone in women are often cited around 15–70 ng/dL, but Fem Excel does not treat lab numbers in isolation. Your provider evaluates symptoms alongside lab results to determine what level best supports how you feel and function, not just what falls within a reference range.
Yes. When prescribed and monitored by qualified clinicians, testosterone therapy for women is considered safe and effective. Fem Excel uses bioidentical formulations, low physiologic dosing, and ongoing lab review to ensure treatment remains appropriate over time.
Many women notice improvements in energy, focus, and libido within 4 to 6 weeks. Response varies based on baseline hormone levels, dosing, and whether testosterone is used alongside estrogen or progesterone. Benefits develop gradually as hormone levels stabilize and treatment is adjusted to your individual response.
It can. Testosterone works alongside estrogen and progesterone to support energy, sexual health, and mood during perimenopause and menopause when clinically appropriate. Testosterone is not a substitute for estrogen, but part of a comprehensive hormone plan.
When properly dosed and monitored, side effects are uncommon. Fem Excel prescribes low, physiologic doses and monitors labs and symptoms closely to minimise risks such as acne or hair changes. Any dose adjustments are made promptly based on how your body responds.
Yes. Every treatment plan begins with a comprehensive assessment and medical review to ensure testosterone therapy is safe, personalised, and appropriate for your needs.
Testosterone therapy is commonly prescribed off label for women based on clinical evidence and international consensus guidelines. Off-label prescribing is a standard and accepted medical practice when supported by research and clinician judgement. At Fem Excel, testosterone therapy is prescribed only when clinically appropriate and monitored closely by licensed providers.
